Interlock Laws for Mid-Range PCA

by | Dec 4, 2018

An Interlock is an electronic breath testing device, connected to the ignition of the vehicle which prevents the vehicle from starting if alcohol is detected. It includes a camera to record a photograph of the person providing the breath sample.
As of 3 December 2018, the Government has extended the reach of interlock laws by requiring a person convicted of a mid-range prescribed concentration of alcohol (PCA) offence to make compulsory the fitting of an interlock device to any vehicle that person drives once their period of disqualification has ended. Previously, this requirement only applied to persons with high-range offences or those convicted of a second major offence within 5 years.
